How it works

Our Song is a game for the phone-controlled jukebox, the kind TouchTunes runs in 65,000 bars. Two people, four cards each, one song they would both play, picked on Qloo's numbers, not a guess. In a real venue this screen carries the bar's own name; here Q-Lou keeps the bar himself.

Ninety seconds

Tap Who are you? on the phone and give a name.
Press Invite on anyone. The regulars are house players built for the demo; they always say yes.
Swap the cards that are not you, then play three: most you, also you, a bit you.
Q-Lou finds the song. Play it or not; he has one more in him.

Watch the right side while you play: every Qloo call lands there as it happens.

101 cards

We made the deck: 101 cards about you, in four suits.

Stage is the music you turn up: Outlaw country, Jazz hands, Bass in the trunk.
Bar is what you order: Whiskey, Queso on everything, Bottomless brunch.
Road is your Saturday: Trail head, Batting cage, Road trips.
Porch is you at home: Dog person, Bookworm, Night owl.

Each card is one Qloo tag or audience, checked against the live API before it was let in; cards whose signal came back as noise were left out.

A hand is four, one of each suit. Swap any that are not you; what you swapped out counts against you.

The engine

Before any game, Qloo scored all 101 cards against 2,003 artists bars actually play. One matrix, built once, refreshed on a schedule.
Each column is standardized, so a life card and a genre card pull by rank, not by how wide Qloo's numbers run.
Your three cards weigh 3, 2, 1. The cards you swapped out pull against.
Each of you gets a curved score for every artist. The weaker score decides, so nobody gets dragged along.
The top three are checked live against Qloo, Qloo's compare says what you share, and the song is the artist's top track.
The control: a plain language model guesses from the same cards with no data, and Qloo scores that guess too. Both land on the ledger.

Real or not

Real: every Qloo call, the matrix, the pick, the control, the venue log, two phones at one table, and the regulars who sit in when you are alone.

Not real: no jukebox plays the song, though you can play a 30 second sample right on the phone; tokens are play money; and the room pairs people by nickname at one venue.

The market: phone-controlled jukeboxes are already in the bars. TouchTunes alone runs 65,000 venues and about 2 million monthly app users; its app already has the account, the credits, the venue screen and friends. Our Song is a feature added inside that app, not a new app: the free game in front of a paid play. The customer is the jukebox company; the bar is theirs.
